Digital Film Finishing

This is important, and any help i get will be greatly appreciated..

Cinesite London : Band of Brothers : Digital Mastering

The look and feel of Band of Brothers was enhanced with an all digital film finishing process at cinesite london.. now, obviously i dont have the money for anything like this, but does anyone know of any tools that'll help me do something similar? those who have seen band of brothers know what im talking about.. any one know of any way to do something like this with premiere or anything like that? i would want the film to be de-saturated.. like, half black and white, half colour.. any way to do that?

Co-executive producer Tony To, oversaw the striking de-saturated look that characterises the show. "Why did Saving Private Ryan work so well? And for us, it was because we remember the Second World War in black and white from movies like The Longest Day, but reality was, and is, lived in colour. So, trying to bridge that gap, we arrived at this half-way point between colour and black and white which is this de-saturated look that we use."

any help with de-saturating film in post production will help alot.. thanks heaps everyone

you seem to have answered your own question

also, if i recall, the desaturated look of SPR stems from the fact of reproducing (by whatever means) colour timings from film stock of that time, so it would look like it was shot in the 40s.

the quote about the war being in b&w - that sounds like someone copying what spielberg said about how he shot Schindler's list.

I've used Boris Tri-tone filter and managed similar colour rendition as Band of Bros. You can pick a general cast (warm as in B of B) and apply it to only the mid tone's of your footage, and alter the transparency and saturation.
